Luleå University of Technology (LTU) is one of Sweden's most popular universities. Currently, LTU is the country's fastest-growing first choice among first-year university applicants. What mainly attracts students from around the world is the possibility to do a world-class degree programme in a region that offers some of the best skiing in Scandinavia. The university's close collaboration within industry and business gives students the opportunity to develop a valuable network for the future, and graduates of LTU are a hot commodity on the labour market.
The student life
The university campus is in Porsön, just five kilometres from Lulea’s city centre. So-called student nations and student unions arrange activities all year round, both on and off campus. Regular events include dinner parties, club nights, variety shows and ski trips. Naturally, participation is a matter of preference and students can also take part in many other types of activities, such as outdoor leisure. There are also several sports and fitness centres close to the campus.
Close to the powder
Skiing is the ideal way to take a break from studies. Luleå has ski trails and slopes that are open throughout the long winter season. With 1,312 islands, the archipelago is a year-round playground that even has winter roads and skating trails. Skiers are never far from the knee-deep powder they dream of. Nearlying resorts include some of Scandinavia's best – Kittelfjäll, Riksgränsen, Björkliden and Ruka. You don’t have to be a professional skier; many students experience their first thrilling slalom run here.
