Luleå has a well-developed network of local buses, covering the entire city and most of its popular destinations.
Local buses have been on the streets of Luleå since 1922. Smedjegatan, the hub for local buses, is the best place to begin your journey. Here, all of Luleå’s bus services connect. Smedjegatan is the busy road that cuts right through the city centre and you will find the bus stop right next to the large shopping mall, Smedjan, on Storgatan. Departures are frequent and there is usually a bus for your chosen destination once every 30 minutes. Many of the bus lines go to nearby residential areas and choosing the right line for your destination can be tricky. To help you, we have compiled a list below, showing the most common destinations and how to get there by bus. If your destination is not listed here, we suggest that you visit the website of Luleå’s Local Transport Authority, Lokaltrafiken, where you will find a very helpful travel planner. Most buses operate in advance of 6 AM and run until midnight. During the night, there are no buses, except on weekends when hourly night buses depart from Smedjegatan between 1-3 AM.
