Mosquito Art Talk: Britta Marakatt-Labba

Britta Marakatt-Labba was born on 18 September 1951 in Idivuoma in Karesuando. She has worked as a freelance artist since her graduation at HDK Gothenburg University in 1978, mostly with embroidered narrative images but also with sculpture, lithography and watercolour. Britta has exhibited internationally at Documenta and the Venice Biennale, among others.

In her Moskito Art Talk, Britta will talk about her artistry. Her images depict Sami culture, everyday, political and mythological events, environmental/mining exploitation, deforestation and climate change.

She will also touch on the work with the documentary "Historia - Stygn för Sápmi", which received two gold awards for best documentary and best music. The film addresses the questions Britta works with in her art; the struggle to maintain the Sami culture and to curb as far as possible the changes that climate change and exploitation of land mean in the long term for the survival of the Sami culture.
