As a tribute to fleeting meetings and timeless moments on the dance floor, choreographer Salka Ardal Rosengren has created Lasting Figures. Here, she brings social dance onto the stage and invites us to experience it in a new way.
It becomes a curious and heartfelt encounter with the sweeping elegance of swing dances rooted in 1930s Harlem, New York. But also an honest exploration of ambiguities and power dynamics in a charged present, where bodies and traditions collide.
Lasting Figures invites us to listen intently, both inward and outward, as the pulse rises in the room. Through the sensitive interplay between dancers Ama Kyei and Salka Ardal Rosengren, and Marcus Doverud on drums and saxophone, we witness the social dynamic intensify into cascades of steps, rhythms, and intimate moments.
