On the second Saturday in August, the harvest market Höslaget is arranged in Avan. Then the village's non-profit associations work together to showcase the best that the countryside around Lule älvdal has to offer. The purpose of Höslaget is to promote locally produced food, traditional crafts and a vibrant rural culture. Over time, this concept has come to include other activities: art, music, vehicle exhibitions and other.
Höslaget lasts for one day between 11 and 16 and attracts up to 5000 visitors. Avan is located on the south side of Luleälven, 18 kilometres from Luleå's city center, along the scenic road 616 (start at Gäddvik). Visitors from the north side of the river are directed to the ferry terminal in Norra Sunderbyn by road 97.
