The Open-air Museum Hägnan, located a stone’s throw from the church town, is well worth a visit when you are in Gammelstad. At Hägnan, you will get to see what life was like in a coastal village in this region between the 18th and 20th centuries.
The museum contains buildings from all over Swedish Lapland, offering a rich, varied selection of activi ties and experiences for all ages. After enjoying a Swedish fika, a light snack and a beverage, at the Kafé Fägnan, a stroll through the outdoor museum will do you good. Or you could bring your own picnic basket and sit down on the grass. There is a lot to see and you mustn’t miss Hägnan's Village Shop, where you will get to go back in time. The pigs, the goats, the rabbits and the hens are also popular amongst our younger visitors.
Welcome to bake bread in the historic Peri-Hanscha farmstead where you can experience a beautiful museum environment and feel the aroma of freshly baked bread. Together we bake a soft bread called “Klådda” in our bakery's wood-fired oven. A very good bread that you can of course taste and take home. During baking, the baker tells stories about baking traditions and folk beliefs about baking. It is said, for example, that whoever gets folds on the bread will get many wedding propositions. Who knows what your bread will tell you?
Hägnan's Village Shop
As a visitor to the Open-air Museum Hägnan's Village Shop, you are moved to the 1940s and are met by goods and museum objects that are reminiscent of a bygone era. The range consists of household utensils, handicrafts, toys, textiles, souvenirs, sweets and much more. Most of the goods sold have a touch of the past, while they can be a joy and benefit in your everyday life.
Travel in time!
Join us on an exciting time travel and learn more about the area's past epochs. During the tour, we bring Luleå's interesting history to life by having characters from our past talk about their lives and commitments. During the dramatized tour, we also visit some museum farms and listen to captivating stories about the art of healing, nasty milk thieves and divisive fishing disputes. An experience you will soon forget!

The café is housed in a timbered Norrbotten Farmstead from the 18th century, in an environment where all seasons show their magical sides. Cozy autumn, brilliant winter, and exuberant spring. In the summers, the whole area turns into a real dream. Grazing animals in the pastures, tar-smelling woodwork, maids and farmhands with their farm management.
Today, the Café is run by sisters Elin and Emma. Extra fun is that the Café-building originally were the two sisters' grandfather's father's home farm.
Pet the animals
Bring the little ones in the family and visit the animals at Hägnan. The walk starts outside Hägnan's Village Shop and continues among the fences and pastures where Hägnan's animals live. Learn more about the frolics of the goats, hear the rooster crowing or look at the pigs grunting in the mud.
