The Norrbotten Railway Museum
The Norrbotten Railway Museum is Sweden's second largest railway museum. It is located in Karlsvik, a mill community with a history of the breakthrough of industrialism. Here are the remains of the first factory for paper production in Norrbotten, steam sawmill and the ruins of Luleå Ironworks, the predecessor of today's SSAB.
The ironworks had a railway built from Gammelstad to Karlsvik for the iron ore from Gällivare. That line has been rebuilt and is part of the Norrbotten Railway Museum and is operated in the summer by vintage trains.
The museum also has exhibition halls and a large railway yard for the display of around 100 museum vehicles, including the complete development chain for the ore trains on the Ore Railway in Norrbotten.
