Hindersön

Hindersön is one of the largest islands in the Luleå Archipelago and is the only seaboard island with agriculture north of Gräsö in central Swedish Roslagen.

Iron ore, discovered on the island in 1842, was mined during several periods. The mine and powder magazine, on Oxgrundet in Norrisundet, are all that remain from this era. Lime was also quarried, at first only for domestic use, but later on an industrial scale when a limekiln was built. The kiln, which has been restored, stands just northeast of Hannosviken.

Much of Hindersön is covered by spruce forest, but there are also pine forest and open sand areas. Game animals and birds common to the archipelago are found here. Tour boats dock at Hindersön during summer.
