Workshop - together with Architecture of Aroha

Welcome to listen to a unique workshop with the Architecture of Aroha group! Part of the closing program for the Luleå Biennale.

The group Architecture of Aroha talks about their project Indigenous spaces: Architecture of Aroha and the cultural objects wahakura and gietkka. Together with them you will learn more about the weaving techniques of Sápmi and Aotearoa.

During the last week of the Luleå Biennale, parts of the exhibitions in Luleå, Boden, Kiruna, Jokkmokk are activated. You can find the entire program on the Luleåbiennalen website.

Architecture of Aroha is a collaboration between Berit Kristine Guvsám (1986, Sápmi Norway), Gunvor Guttorm (1958, Sápmi Norway), Iŋgos-Máhte Iŋgá, Inga Ravna Eira (1948, Sápmi Norway), Jasmine Te Hira (1990, Aotearoa New Zealand ), Tanya Reihana White (1965, Aotearoa New Zealand), curated by Zoe Black (1985, Aotearoa New Zealand). In Architecture of Aroha, a dialogue develops between two culturally significant objects: wahakura and gietkka, traditionally designed cradles from the Maori and Sami communities, respectively. Within these indigenous groups, the creation of the cradle and its materiality is more than a craft; it is a way to take part in ancestors' knowledge of love, care and a worldview that brings together nature, lands, creators, families and ancestors.
