The idea arose one day in a spontaneous conversation between friends Fredrik Ljungkvist and Joakim Milder, artistic director of the Norrbotten Big Band. As so many times before, they discussed back and forth. It concerned the old heroes of the 70s. Maybe it was time to put theory into practice? To back the historic band and take another step? That's what's happening now.
Now the idols will be celebrated in a completely new way. It will be a de-electrified study of the era where progressive rock met jazz for the very first time. We're talking about the 1970s and eternal names like Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report.
Fredrik Ljungkvist is one of the absolute best in contemporary Swedish jazz. With groups such as YUN KAN 10 and YUN KAN 5, his self-titled trio and various awards from Jazzkatten and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, he has remained at the forefront of Swedish jazz for two decades.
