Mariam Wallentin is an artist with a big heart, as thoughtful as she is musically bold. An Alice Coltrane for springtime. Soulfulness meets music that makes us feel and think. Wallentin is also known as half of Wildbirds & Peacedrums and one of the creative forces in the jazz collective Fire! Orchestra.
Mariam has worked with bands such as Deerhoof and Konono no 1, with world artists such as Björk and has been part of an experimental opera by noise musician Ben Frost. She has musical collaborations with Damien Rice and Leslie Feist and has won the Manifestpris, Jazzkattenpris and been nominated several times for the Grammis.
With her uncompromising approach to music, Wallentin started her project Mariam The Believer in 2012, in order to focus her expression into a more pop-oriented project. She has released two acclaimed full-length albums on her own label Repeat Until Death and has an ongoing series of EPs called Instant Creativity.
Her latest album Breathing Techniques features songs about longing and an exploration of life's fragile moments and the constant change of existence. Performed together with a chamber music setting in a more modern vein, where pop music meets improvisations in a poetic flow. She continues to push musical boundaries with her distinctive voice and bold musicianship. Mariam is an artist who dares and who touches.
