Platsen

In her exhibition Platsen, Jette Andersen explores the connection between identity, the past and the present. For a long time, through her artistry, she has investigated the relationship to the place on the banks of the Luleälven, a place where, after changing country and culture, she has taken root.

The exhibition offers a close dialogue about the importance of place in our lives and examines how our experiences are shaped by objects, physical spaces and the society in which we operate. Through a poetic and thoughtful reflection, Andersen illuminates the complexity of life, with a focus on the intimate and local, and seeks the core of our human existence.

The visitor is invited to experience small everyday objects, pictures and sculptures - which, through their careful placement, create a dialogue between the present and the past. The thing carries her stories and memories, but here we are allowed to meet them in their absolute presence and materiality. Andersen's processing of handwritten letters illustrates her personal history. It is a liberating crime that the letters now include a new context. The letters are received during the 60s - to the 90s, when handwritten letters were later slowly replaced by other media. They carry with them lived life beyond the meaning of words, present through the physical movement of the hand. They dissolve time and form a background for her present horizon and place.

In addition to working with the potential and the poetry of her own leftovers, she has investigated and problematized her immediate surroundings, the fir trees and the landscape in objects, sculptures and drawings.

Jette Andersen, born in 1949 in Odense, Denmark, is an artist and architect active in Luleå since 1976. Through her artistry, she explores life in progress. Andersen has previously shown his works in exhibitions at, among others, Havremagasinet, Skellefteå Konsthall, Härnösand Konsthall and Luleå Konsthall in 2008.
