Svansjön
International Festival Ballet & Festival Symphoniker Orchestra present A feerie of beauty, elegance and grace "Swan Lake"
The best of classical ballet, a perfect work of art with live orchestral accompaniment.
Swan Lake is one of the most popular ballets and is part of the international standard repertoire of classical ballet. This ballet, a brilliant work by a masterful composer, Tchaikovsky, has been a crowd pleaser for centuries.
The original production was choreographed by Julius Reisinger. The ballet was premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet on March 4, 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Although it is presented in many different versions, most ballet companies base their productions both choreographically and musically on Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov's new production from 1895, which was first staged for the Imperial Ballet on January 15, 1895 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
The popular classical ballet tells the story of Odette, a princess who is transformed into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. While hunting, Prince Siegfried sees a magnificent swan. He takes aim to shoot, but the swan transforms into a beautiful woman named Odette. She tells the prince that she is a princess who has been bewitched by an evil sorcerer. During the day, she must be a swan and swim in a lake of tears. At night, she is allowed to be human again. The spell can only be broken if a prince promises her eternal fidelity. She tells Prince Siegfried that if he refuses her, she must remain a swan forever. Prince Siegfried falls in love with Odette, but an evil sorcerer puts a spell on him so that he accidentally proposes to another woman. Princess Odette threatens to kill herself and throws herself into the lake. The prince feels sorry for her and jumps into the lake with her. The couple become lovers in the afterlife.
Outstanding soloists and dancers, wonderful scenography and costumes combined with magnificent lighting design and wonderful music, performed by a wonderful symphony orchestra, that is what the International Festival Ballet and the Festival Symphoniker Orchestra offer ballet lovers all over the world.
