Veteran Day

On Veterans Day, May 29, Sweden honors its veterans and commemorates those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace in conflict zones around the world.

The ceremony in Luleå will take place at the Veterans Monument in Hermelinsparken. This year, special recognition will be given to the first two unit deployments in Kosovo, as well as other missions across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America.

Veterans who served in Lebanon will also receive special attention during the ceremony. The public and veterans from other government agencies are warmly welcome to attend.

The ceremony begins at 13:00 and includes:

• A flyover by JAS 39 Gripen in the "Missing Man Formation"
• Speeches by Colonel Peter Greberg, Wing Commander, and a representative from Luleå Municipality
• Wreath-laying ceremony
• Distribution of commemorative tokens
• Music by Hemvärnets musikkår, the Home Guard Band
