Sámi Week – come and celebrate the Sámi National Day at the City Library!
Welcome to explore an exhibition for all ages! Sit down in the lávvu, listen to stories, see duodji handicrafts, and learn more about the cultural plant angelica.
During the week, we also offer creative activities for children. Get inspired by Sámi handicraft traditions and make your own bracelet!
You can also visit Amnesty’s exhibition The Land Remembers – Life, Struggle and Rights in Sápmi – a powerful and moving photo exhibition featuring images by photographer Erik Nylander.
In collaboration with the Lule-Boden Sámi Association.
National Minority Language
Sámi is one of Sweden’s five national minority languages. Luleå Municipality has a special responsibility to promote the languages and cultures of national minorities and to spread knowledge about their rights.
At the library, you will find books in the national minority languages, and you can take part in story times held, for example, in Meänkieli and North Sámi. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to explore stories, languages, and culture together with children and adults.
