Soulful December
When Norrbotten Big Band, artistic director Joakim Milder, and acclaimed vocalist Britta Bergström invite audiences to Soulful December, they present an extraordinary evening of music at the highest level. Set during the festive season, the concert offers all the warmth one might expect from a Christmas production while looking far beyond traditional holiday tunes. Carefully selected songs from the guest artists’ own repertoires are reimagined in brand-new, tailor-made big band arrangements, where grand, sweeping soundscapes alternate with intimate and deeply moving moments.
Widely regarded as one of Europe’s most innovative jazz orchestras, Norrbotten Big Band is celebrated for its remarkable sonic range, technical excellence, and constant drive to challenge musical boundaries. Under the artistic direction of Joakim Milder, the band creates a unique musical framework for this year’s concert. For the occasion, they are joined by a dream trio of guest artists:
Lisa Miskovsky is one of Sweden’s most beloved artists and songwriters. With two Swedish Grammy Awards, five Rockbjörnen awards, and more than 200,000 albums sold, she has built an impressive career both as a performer and as a songwriter for other artists, including the Backstreet Boys’ hit Shape of My Heart. In recent years she has received widespread acclaim for her Swedish-language album Eljest, and in this concert she brings both personal favourites and her unmistakable stage presence.
Toussaint Chiza (formerly known as Tusse) has established himself as a distinctive artist whose sound blends African gospel influences with contemporary soul. His critically acclaimed album It Takes a Village to Love a Child explores themes of heritage, courage, and family. Audiences can expect a performer whose authenticity, charisma, and soulful warmth leave a lasting impression.
Joanné Nugas is one of Sweden’s most exciting emerging talents. Known from The Real Group and as the Swedish voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, she has also earned widespread praise for her leading role as Juliet in the hit musical & Juliet. With her extraordinary vocal ability and magnetic stage presence, she adds a touch of brilliance to the evening.
Guiding the audience through the concert is the incomparable Britta Bergström, whose warmth, wit, and effortless musicality make her the perfect host. With outstanding musicianship, rich vocal harmonies, and an atmosphere filled with soul and joy, Soulful December promises to be an unforgettable celebration of music and togetherness.
