Outdoor theater performance

December 1–December 23 at 14.00 | Christmas Eve at 12.00 | Free entrance

Lule Stassteater was founded back in 1975 and has since devotedly produced and toured theater only for children and young people. Today we produce a wide range of directed theater art in various formats. In 1995, the Christmas calendar tradition was started by, among others, one of the theater’s founders, Harry Nyman, who also played Santa for many years. The Christmas calendar is played every day in December until Christmas Eve and is a newly written performance every winter. Photo: Magnus Stenberg.

Christmas calendar 2023 ”When Santa promised too much”, written by Linda Wincent, is a rap and funny story about friendship, nasty fights and how to deal when things don’t turn out as planned. SANTA promises too much, The saffron bun cat just wants to be two and the CHRISTMAS TREE feels like a Loneliest-in-town-tree. But help is near! Someone who left an impression on several generations of Luleå children helps them find the way to friendship again. Who could it be? Come and have a look!

When Santa promised too much

Scene 1: Santa, the saffron bun cat and the Christmas tree are singing a Christmas carol about their friendship and what the different characters like to do.

Scene 2: Santa hides packages to the excited expectations of the the saffron bun cat and the Christmas tree. Santa has forgotten what date it is and the children in the audience have to help him to remember. Today’s hatch is opened and the Christmas tree and the saffron bun cat are delighted at what is hiding behind the door. The Christmas tree gets decorations and the saffron bun cat ingredients and baking tools.

Scene 3: Now they can finally start decorating and bake. Suddenly, to his horror, the Christmas tree finds a plastic tree among the decorations. The memory from last year starts to come back when Santa Claus went and bought a fully decorated Christmas tree at an extra price. The plastic tree is packed away and Santa Claus promises that they can start decorating the Christmas tree. At the same time, the saffron bun cat has got all his ingredients in order and will start the Christmas baking with Santa Claus. Santa has promised a little too much, as he had agreed to bake with the saffron bun cat after the opening of the hatch, and the saffron bun cat only wants to bake with Santa. The Christmas tree ends up outside and feels like the loneliest tree in town.

Scene 4: Santa feels guilty and wants to invite the Christmas tree to the baking. The saffron bun cat tries one way after another to get Santa to only bake with her. The Christmas tree comes out of the house, is sad and angry because she can’t join.

Scene 5: The saffron bun cat and the Christmas tree argue about how everything could turn out the way it did. They finally realize that it is all Santa’s fault, that he has promised too much. Now everyone feels lonely, even Santa who just wanted everyone to have a good time. The city park’s own ”Stortall” (the big pine tree) comes to life and begins to listen to the three friends. They all get to talk about what happened, which eases their hearts and the friends get along.
