When?

Why?
Midsummer solstice is the longest day of the year and was long considered a magical night. Midsummer Eve is always held on the nearest Friday to the Midsummer solstice. Here in Luleå, with the midnight light, Midsummer Eve is the start of the summer season. Many of Luleå’s inhabitants start their summer vacations, and loads of activities, such as the tour boat’s peak season, start in connection with the Midsummer weekend.
How?
Everyone can celebrate Midsummer in their own fashion. The celebrations may be everything from hiking in solidity and small gatherings with the family to large celebrations at public places.
If you ask Swedes what the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning Midsummer, you will get answers such as: strawberries, salmon, pickled herring, and fresh potatoes, flower wreaths, the "kubb" game, and dancing around maypoles to the “små grodorna” song.
