Luleå has truly established itself as one of Sweden’s leading sports cities – and in 2025, that status became official when the city was named Sweden’s Best Sports City by SVT Sport for the first time.

Here, you’ll find Sweden’s most passionate basketball fans, according to players and coaches. The arenas are often packed, even during the regular season, and there’s a strong sense of community as the people of Luleå rally behind their teams.

The city boasts a vibrant sports scene with over 80 active clubs, covering everything from football and athletics to martial arts and gymnastics.

We’re fortunate to have several elite teams that deliver real adrenaline rushes at Luleå Energi Arena and Coop Norrbotten Arena, where both men’s and women’s hockey and basketball teams compete.
